At a meeting with Peter Sørensen, Chairman of the European Union Aviation Safety Committee, the head of the Kyrgyz government, Adylbek Kasymaliev, discussed the possibility of removing domestic airlines from the EU blacklist. An important point of the negotiations was the timeline for when a final decision on this matter could be expected. Information about the meeting was provided by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Ambassador of the European Union to Kyrgyzstan, Remi Duflo, also participated in the negotiations.

A significant achievement was the modernization of all 11 airports in the country and the replenishment of the fleet with new aircraft.

Sørensen noted the positive changes in legislation and the high level of government support for the aviation industry. He also indicated that the visit is part of the assessment procedure, and a final decision will be made by the relevant EU committee in May of this year.

Kasymaliev emphasized: "This issue remains a priority for us. A positive decision will open new horizons for the development of both the aviation sector and the economy as a whole."

For reference, Kyrgyz airlines have been on the European Union blacklist since 2006. This list includes carriers that, in the opinion of the EU and ICAO, do not meet safety requirements. Being on this list restricts access to the skies over the EU for such airlines. To be removed from it, compliance with international standards must be demonstrated.

In October 2025, representatives of the State Agency for Civil Aviation of Kyrgyzstan (GACA) participated in a technical meeting in Brussels with the European Commission (DG MOVE) as part of the ongoing process of removing the country from the EU safety list.
