The EU may lift aviation restrictions on Kyrgyzstan in May

The meeting between the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, and the Chairman of the EU Aviation Safety Committee, Peter Sorensen, took place recently. The main topic of discussion was the possible removal of Kyrgyz airlines from the European Union's blacklist.

The EU Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Remi Duflo, also participated in this event. Kasymaliev emphasized the importance of the European delegation's visit for the country.

The head of the Cabinet noted that significant reforms have been implemented in the aviation sector in recent years. Among them are the establishment of the State Agency for Civil Aviation and the introduction of ICAO international standards, the compliance level of which reached 85.76% according to the results of an international audit.

Kasymaliev also reported an increase in passenger traffic, which rose from 3.9 million in 2021 to over 6 million in 2025, and the number of flights increased to 52,000. All 11 airports in the country are undergoing modernization, and two Airbus A321 aircraft have already been purchased with plans to expand the fleet.

Peter Sorensen noted the positive changes in the aviation sector and expressed satisfaction with the results achieved.

It is expected that a final decision on the possible removal of Kyrgyzstan from the EU aviation safety list will be made in May 2026.
