In recent years, cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have significantly strengthened. According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this has been facilitated by the trusting relationships between the leaders of both countries. Visits by presidents and joint events have laid the foundation for organizing festivals, tours, and film forums.
The basis for the partnership was the Agreement signed in 1994 and the current Program for 2024–2026. Over the past four years, the ministries of culture of the two states have conducted about 20 mutual visits, which allowed for numerous cultural events, including "Culture Days" in Tashkent and Dushanbe, as well as the "Evening of Friendship" concerts, which have become a tradition.
Cinema plays an important role in this interaction. A key project has been the joint work on the historical film "Starry Sky: Jami and Navoi," which is being created in collaboration with "Uzbekkino" and "Tajikfilm." The film is currently in the editing stage. Additionally, "Cinema Days" were held in 2024–2025, where both countries presented their best contemporary films to the audience.
One of the bright events of 2025 was the celebration of Navruz in Khujand, where leaders from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan gathered. Artists from both countries continue to successfully participate in international events: the Tajik ensemble "Lola" won an award at the "Lazgi" festival, and soloists from the National Conservatory of Tajikistan received high honors at the Makom Art Forum held in Uzbekistan.
Future plans include signing a new cooperation agreement for 2026–2027. The agenda includes events such as the meeting of three generations "Navruzi Olam," new theater tours, and the organization of the next "Culture and Cinema Days." The first meeting of the culture ministers of Central Asia also confirmed Tashkent and Dushanbe's commitment to strengthening ties between the peoples through art.
