This coin will be part of a commemorative series scheduled for release in 2026. It will feature a portrait of Trump leaning on a table, and this design has received his approval. The dimensions of the coin, made of 24-karat gold, have not yet been determined, but its maximum diameter could be 7.6 centimeters. The final decision on this matter will be made by the U.S. Mint.
Brandon Beach, the U.S. Treasurer, noted that the portrait of the sitting president on the obverse of the coin is "the most appropriate and symbolic," as it embodies "the enduring spirit of our country and democracy." However, some critics, including Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, argue that "the Trump administration's initiative to place his image on a commemorative coin is an attempt to distort the meaning of America's 250th anniversary."
