Kyrgyzstanis Do Not Know Basic Security Measures in Telegram and WhatsApp
He added that the agency, in collaboration with foreign partners, is strengthening these efforts and organizing training sessions in the regions, including classes for civil servants.
During the meeting, Deputy Gulsharakan Kultaeva drew attention to the increasing number of account hacks in WhatsApp and Telegram. According to her, the number of fraudulent activities has recently risen, leading to significant losses for citizens. She inquired about what measures the agency is taking to protect users.
Kylimbek Madalbekov explained that agency staff conduct training events in district and regional centers. Additionally, there are plans to launch an information campaign aimed at informing citizens about the steps they need to take to protect their personal data.
During the discussion, it was noted that against the backdrop of rapid digitalization, many citizens are unfamiliar with the basics of digital security.
Specifically, this concerns simple measures to protect accounts in messengers, such as two-factor authentication. Madalbekov noted that users often do not realize that they can link their accounts not only to a phone number but also to an email address.
Another problem pointed out by the deputy director is the careless attitude of citizens towards their personal data. He emphasized that many users post their passports and other important information on open social media accounts, which creates a risk of fraud and unauthorized access to data.
It is worth noting that the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Science, Education, Innovative Development, and Information Technologies is currently hearing a report on the work of the State Agency for Personal Data Protection.
