EU rejects possible easing of sanctions against oil from Russia

Statement by the EU Commissioner for Economy on the reaction to Trump's words

Despite the sharp rise in energy prices caused by the conflict in Iran, the European Union has firmly opposed easing sanctions related to Russian oil. In Brussels, on March 10, Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU Commissioner for Economy, stated: "We must continue to exert maximum pressure on Russia."

He emphasized that lifting restrictions on oil exports would be "counterproductive" and would serve to strengthen Russia's military power. "Maintaining the price cap on Russian oil must be carried out with utmost rigor," he added.

These comments followed statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested temporarily lifting some previously imposed restrictions on oil exports from Russia after a conversation with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia.

It is worth noting that global energy prices have increased due to military actions in the Middle East, which could negatively impact the economies of leading countries, including the EU, India, and China.
