The parliamentary committee on industrial policy, transport, and the energy complex has reviewed a bill that proposes increasing the maximum capacity of small hydropower plants from 30 to 50 megawatts. This project was approved in the second reading.

Energy Minister Talaybek Ibraev noted that the aim of this bill is to create more attractive conditions for the development of renewable energy sources and to attract investments in the energy sector.

According to him, the existing capacity limit often hinders the implementation of projects that could be economically viable and appealing to investors. The changes proposed, in Ibraev's opinion, will create incentives for attracting capital and introducing new technologies in the energy industry.

The justification for the bill emphasizes that hydropower plants with a capacity of up to 50 megawatts can be successfully integrated into the energy system without significant risks to the stability of the grid. This will also help significantly increase domestic electricity production and reduce dependence on hydrological resources in the long term.
