In strengthening relations with the Global South, Beijing announced the introduction of unprecedented trade benefits for the African continent. This was stated by Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister and member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, at a press conference in Beijing on March 8, held as part of the session of the National People's Congress. This decision was made ahead of the expected visits of African leaders to China and within the framework of the Year of Humanitarian Exchanges.
Starting May 1, China will eliminate import duties on 100% of goods from African countries. "We will promote the 'multiplication' of people's wealth through the 'subtraction' of customs duties," the minister noted.
Wang Yi also emphasized that over 70 years, the China-Africa friendship has undergone many trials, and the PRC intends to use its vast markets to support the recovery of African economies.
