The situation in the Middle East may lead to a repeat of the migration crisis similar to that of 2015. This was stated by Alice Weidel, co-chair of the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) party. She emphasized that German authorities must urgently take measures to prevent an uncontrolled influx of refugees amid the ongoing hostilities.
Weidel noted that the German government should learn from past lessons when around a million migrants arrived in the country, necessitating an emergency repurposing of vacant schools and industrial facilities to accommodate them. She insists that it is essential to prevent a recurrence of such a situation "at any cost," maintaining control over borders and the internal situation in the country.
The situation in the region escalated on February 28, when the USA and Israel began military operations against Iran, striking its largest cities. In response, Tehran organized massive attacks using missiles and drones on Israeli territories and American military bases. Against this backdrop, countries in the region began closing their airspace, and the international community began to document the humanitarian risks that could lead to a new wave of migration to Europe.
