In light of his recent resignation from government positions, the question arose: will Tashiev leave the football sphere as well, and what will be the consequences for the Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU).
The situation remains stable
The KFU plays an important role in representing the country on the international stage through FIFA and AFC, managing international grants and overseeing infrastructure projects. It is not just a sports organization but a significant administrator managing budgets and real estate.
At the moment, Kamchybek Tashiev continues to serve as President of the Kyrgyz Football Union, and the structure of the KFU has not undergone any changes.

Tashiev took office as President of the KFU in February 2024, and his position is elected at a congress where relevant decisions are made. The executive committee does not have the authority to independently dismiss anyone; its task is to hold a congress at least once a year with participants representing football leagues and clubs. It is at these meetings that the chairperson is approved or recalled.
Tashiev's term will expire in April 2026, which raises questions about the possibility of his re-election or the appointment of a new leader. However, Tashiev himself has not made any official statements regarding his future plans, and his colleagues in the football association are also refraining from making predictions.
Concerns arise
In addition to personnel changes, the football community is concerned about the fate of stadiums, training bases, and academies, as well as regional projects.
In recent years, the development of football in Kyrgyzstan has been largely tied to the personality of the leader.
Construction and resource allocation have been under the control of influential figures like Tashiev, who was seen as an important player not only among the elite but also among ordinary citizens. His closeness to the president gave him additional authority.
After Tashiev's resignation, concerns arose about the funding of football projects and the maintenance of stability in budget distribution. However, the KFU assures that the work of all teams and facilities continues as usual, and the system is functioning smoothly. Sports officials refer to the president's decree on the development of football from 2026 to 2034.
“This document confirms the strategic support of the industry by the state and the intention to continue funding and modernizing infrastructure. A national program has also been approved,” representatives of the KFU note.
In the union, they consider the decree a kind of protection against surprises, hoping that the interest in football from the elite will not change.
Football is more than just a sport
Historically, the sporting interests of the highest officials of the state become popular among officials and businessmen. For example, in the 1990s, many leaders of CIS countries were actively interested in tennis. Nowadays, team sports such as hockey in Russia and Belarus have become more popular, while in Kyrgyzstan, football has gained prominence as the president himself plays it.
Football officials see this as a positive sign for the development of football and hope that Tashiev's resignation will not lead to changes in the country's football system.
