Changes will also affect the procedure for forming the commission
A draft law to reduce the composition of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums has been presented to the Jogorku Kenesh.
According to the proposal, the number of members of the CEC will be reduced from 12 to 7. In addition, the procedure for their appointment will change:
- three members of the Central Election Commission are planned to be appointed on the recommendation of the president;
- four will be elected by the parliament independently.
The authors of the initiative are confident that the proposed structure will achieve a balance between the various branches of government and eliminate the possibility of blocking decisions due to an equal number of votes.
