RBC: Telegram will be blocked in Russia at the beginning of April

According to sources, this is a final decision.

In the first days of April, the messenger Telegram will be blocked in the territory of Russia. This was reported by RBC, citing its sources.

According to two sources close to the Kremlin, the blockade is a final decision. The main reasons for this decision are the increase in cases of recruitment, including minors, for illegal activities.

Earlier, the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Maksut Shadayev, stated that the authorities do not intend to impose restrictions on the use of Telegram in the special military operation zone. "It has been decided not to restrict the operation of Telegram in the SVO zone," he claimed at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy on February 18.

Nevertheless, Shadayev expressed hope that over time, military personnel would begin to use other platforms.

This week, it also became known from materials of "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" and "Komsomolskaya Pravda" that a criminal case has been initiated against Telegram founder Pavel Durov on charges of aiding terrorist activities. Durov links this case to an attempt to "suppress the right to privacy and freedom of speech."

As reported by KP, the Telegram administration did not comply with the requirements of Roskomnadzor and did not delete 1,369 channels, chats, and bots related to child pornography, as well as 3,771 related to drugs, 2,666 related to suicide, and 2,124 dedicated to involving minors in criminal activities. In addition, more than 10,500 channels related to calls for extremism and "financing the enemy" also remained undeleted.
