Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Erkebek Ashirkhodzhaev reported at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 26 that a project to provide video surveillance will be implemented in Kyrgyzstan within the next 1-2 years.

These measures were a response to the appeals of Deputy Burul Amanova, who pointed out problems related to pickpocketing in public transport and places with large crowds.

She noted that schoolchildren are particularly affected by such incidents, experiencing psychological stress.
Ashirkhodzhaev emphasized that cameras are already functioning in the country as part of the "Safe City" and "Safe Country" programs, which help monitor suspicious individuals.
“However, it is impossible to place one police officer for every pickpocket in public transport. Patrols are already deployed in high-crime areas. To effectively address the issue of pickpocketing, it is necessary to install video cameras everywhere. As part of the 'Safe Country' program, the installation of 6,000 cameras is planned, then 20,000, and within 1-2 years, complete video surveillance coverage will be achieved,” he explained.

Burul Amanova added that even if it is not feasible to place patrols in public transport, their presence should be ensured in shopping centers and crowded places.

The deputy also inquired about crime statistics, to which Ashirkhodzhaev responded that the number of crimes decreases each year.
