Deputy Elvira Surabaldiyeva on recent events in the country: Will there be a political thaw?

The General Prosecutor's Office emphasized that the review of cases is possible only within the framework of the law

Currently, the Jogorku Kenesh is discussing the draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic," which includes amendments to the Criminal, Criminal Procedure, and Criminal Executive Codes of the country.

During the discussion, Deputy Elvira Surabaldiyeva raised a question to the Deputy General Prosecutor, inquiring whether any political thaw is expected in light of current events and whether a review of decisions that many consider unjust is possible.

In response, Deputy General Prosecutor Umutkan Konkubaeva stated that all actions must be carried out strictly in accordance with the legislation.

She clarified: "Regarding the review of cases, if appeals are received or new facts are revealed during prosecutor supervision, materials may be reviewed. However, the law does not allow for the review of all cases indiscriminately without legal grounds." The Deputy Prosecutor also added that to review cases, an application must be submitted to the General Prosecutor's Office, after which an inspection will be conducted within the framework of supervisory activities.
