In Karakol, residents have appealed to the authorities with a request to grant the city a special tourist status. This statement was made by deputy Rakhат Junushalieva at today’s meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

According to her, she received a letter from entrepreneurs, activists, and local residents containing this request.

“We have collected 2,000 signatures. Karakol, as a multinational administrative center with a rich history and cultural traditions, has a strategic geographical location. According to official data, the city receives about 150,000 tourists annually. The location operates year-round: in winter, skiing sports develop here, while in summer — eco-tourism, trekking, and gastro-tourism,” Junushalieva emphasized.

She also noted that with the increase in tourist flow, the burden on the city’s infrastructure is growing.

“Nevertheless, the budget of Karakol is quite modest. Therefore, for the further development of the city, it is necessary to establish a special legal regime and status, which will allow attracting investments,” the deputy added.
