Deputy Dastan Bekeshev spoke in favor of abolishing strict uniforms in educational institutions and official attire in government agencies during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh.

He noted that there are currently strict rules regarding uniform clothing.

“I receive numerous complaints, especially from the regions, that school uniforms are uncomfortable for children. In summer, they are hot, and in winter, they are too cold. It is also inconvenient to move in such clothing during city traffic jams. We are creating additional difficulties for schoolchildren. In China, for example, children are allowed to wear sports suits, as this is much more comfortable,” Bekeshev stated.

According to the deputy, he does not propose completely abandoning school uniforms to avoid a situation where children come in sloppy clothing. Instead, he called on the government to reconsider the dress code requirements and allow children to wear more comfortable clothing, such as sweaters, t-shirts, and jeans in a casual style,” he added.

He also suggested easing the strict clothing requirements in parliament and other government bodies.

“We are required to wear an official jacket and tie. These traditions have remained since Soviet times. Security also strictly monitors compliance with the dress code for visitors to parliament. There were no such strict requirements before; why is it so strict now to check guests? I believe that we should meet people not by their clothing but by their knowledge and qualities. I urge the government to conduct a survey among schoolchildren and change the current practice,” the deputy concluded.

Interestingly, Bekeshev himself spoke at the session without a jacket, dressed in a shirt and vest.
