Uzbekistan has announced the start of a nationwide selection of candidates wishing to become the country's first astronaut. According to local media, the agency "Uzbekcosmos" has already studied global experience in astronaut training and conducting scientific research on the International Space Station (ISS). As a result of a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a directive was issued to create a special state commission that will be responsible for finding candidates and organizing the flight.
Candidates will face strict requirements regarding health, scientific knowledge, and proficiency in foreign languages. It is planned that the first Uzbek astronaut will embark on a short-term flight lasting from 10 to 14 days. In addition, work is underway in the country to create the first national scientific satellite "Mirzo Ulughbek," with its launch scheduled for 2028. Students from Uzbekistan studying at a Japanese technological institute are participating in the development of this device.
