In the state of Florida, where Republicans control the House of Representatives, the idea of renaming Palm Beach International Airport in honor of Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has been supported. This was reported by The Palm Beach Post.

Meg Weinberger, one of the bill's co-authors and a representative from Palm Beach County, noted that Trump deserves such recognition as his home is located just five miles from the airport. Kim Kendall, a Republican from St. Augustine and a former air traffic controller, added that the president is worthy of this for his administration's contribution to modernizing the airport's infrastructure last year. John Snyder, a representative from Stuart, emphasized that after the bill is passed, the airport will "officially become great."

Weinberger also noted that lawmakers did not work with Trump's company during the preparation of the initiative, and the president's family agreed to waive rights to use his name in relation to the airport.

According to the Senate budget bill, $2.75 million will be allocated for replacing signs and other elements of the airport's infrastructure in West Palm Beach. The airport serves about 8.6 million passengers annually.

Democrats, for their part, advocate for delaying the renaming until the end of Trump's presidential term. They mention his past, including two impeachments and 34 indictments related to business document fraud in New York. However, their opinion has not significantly influenced the decision of the Florida House of Representatives.
