In Kyrgyzstan, a reduction of the threshold for insurance payouts for housing in the event of earthquakes is planned, from six to five points. This change will allow for compensation for damage from tremors that were previously not covered, as payouts were only made for earthquakes with a magnitude of six or higher. Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Benazir Nurlanova presented the relevant amendments to the legislation at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with international affairs, defense, security, and migration.

According to Nurlanova, this initiative is aimed at increasing the level of social protection for citizens.

The proposed bill includes amendments to the Civil Code and the Law on Mandatory Insurance of Residential Premises Against Fire and Natural Disasters.

As a result of the discussion, the members of the relevant committee approved these changes in the first reading.
