"Without Mask Shows and PR". Sadyr Japarov on the Fight Against Corruption and Organized Crime After Tashiev's Resignation
According to him, organized crime is currently absent in Kyrgyzstan, unlike before. However, he acknowledged that crimes exist everywhere, and it is impossible to completely eliminate them.
“The organized criminal groups that used to operate, including those who collected 'marks' even from women in markets, no longer exist. They are either in prison or hiding abroad. If the criminal world hopes to return to Kyrgyzstan and establish their order, they are deeply mistaken,” the president emphasized.
Japarov also noted that Kyrgyzstan has changed since 2020. “This is already a different country. The government that came to power after 2020 will not cooperate with criminals. Therefore, there will be no organized crime anymore,” he added.
As for corruption, the president stated that the fight against it will never cease.
“It will continue indefinitely. There is not a single country in the world that has been able to completely eliminate corruption. Even in Singapore, which is considered a model, its level is 15-16%,” the head of state noted.
Japarov also added that dealing with crime turned out to be not so difficult.
“We established order in one day. However, we have not been able to completely tackle corruption over the past five years. If we are lucky, in the future we will try to reduce its level. We have all the necessary resources and knowledge. I instructed the law enforcement agencies: 'In the fight against crime and corruption, you have complete freedom of action, work without 'mask shows' and PR, calmly and professionally,'” he concluded.
