Sadyr Japarov met with the relatives of those detained for drug-related crimes
During the discussion, the participants expressed hope that the president would consider the possibility of changing the measure of restraint to house arrest, as well as mitigating the punishment for the convicted. They also touched upon the need to amend legislation towards humanization.
The president listened to the appeals of the relatives and emphasized that issues concerning the lives of citizens should be at the forefront of state attention. He also noted that drug-related crimes pose a serious threat to public health and safety.
The relatives pointed out that most of the accused are young people, including some older citizens. They indicated that the detainees had no prior criminal records and were arrested for the first time, and that some of them had only a small amount of drugs confiscated.
The president expressed his willingness to consider the possibility of pardoning those who committed a crime for the first time, provided there are appropriate grounds and all necessary procedures are followed.
He added that an official petition is required for this, which will be reviewed in accordance with the law.
At the end of the meeting, the president emphasized the importance of strengthening preventive and informational work among the youth, as well as enhancing inter-agency cooperation in the fight against drugs. He instructed the relevant departments of the presidential administration to analyze the current legislation in this area.
