At a press conference, Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, head of the CSTO Joint Staff, reported on the full implementation of the joint military training plan for 2025. He noted that this year continued the practice of events against the backdrop of a complex military-political and strategic situation. The scenarios for the exercises were developed in collaboration with defense agencies, taking into account the real situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and potential collective security threats.
In 2025, 61 events were held, including operational consultations and large-scale exercises. Summarizing, Serdyukov highlighted that the year was marked by a significant increase in geopolitical tension and the threat of instability near the borders of CSTO member states. Under these conditions, the work of the Joint Staff was carried out strictly in accordance with the tasks set by the heads of state and defense ministers, focusing on the priorities defined by the Kyrgyz Republic as the chairing country. The main goal was to maintain a high readiness of collective forces to ensure peace and security.
An important strategic outcome of the year was the approval of the military cooperation development plan for 2026–2030. This document sets the framework for coalition military construction for the upcoming five years and shapes the prospective appearance of the military component of the CSTO for the long term.
The practical implementation of tasks in 2025 took place on the territories of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Military contingents practiced the operational redeployment of forces, coordination of multinational groupings, and their use, taking into account the experience of modern conflicts. Special attention was paid to the deployment of command and control systems and the protection of command posts from enemy drone attacks. As Andrei Serdyukov summarized, all training and research objectives were achieved: personnel demonstrated high field training and readiness to act as a unified mechanism in crisis situations.
