Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the information that the date of the upcoming elections may be announced on February 24. He stated that he is hearing about this for the first time, adding that his attention was drawn to a publication in the Financial Times, which claimed that the timing of the voting and the referendum on the peace agreement would be announced on that day.

“I am hearing for the first time about plans to hold elections on the 24th. I first learned this information from the Financial Times, and now for the second time from you. I have repeatedly emphasized that elections are only possible if all necessary security conditions are met,” Zelensky noted.

The Financial Times article reported that Ukraine has begun preparations for presidential elections and a referendum on the peace agreement with Russia, after the U.S. administration urged Kyiv to hold the vote by May 15, threatening to otherwise deprive the country of security guarantees.
