As part of a new initiative, the U.S. State Department has announced the allocation of grants to support freedom of speech in European Union countries. American authorities have expressed dissatisfaction with regulatory measures such as the Digital Services Act in Europe and the Online Safety Act in the UK, as reported by Reuters.

Sara Rogers, the Deputy Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy, will embark on a tour of several European cities to discuss these issues with local officials and civil society representatives. She emphasized that her main task is to secure funding that promotes the development of freedom of speech in the region.

The State Department intends to invest in organizations and institutions operating in Europe to disseminate Washington's political positions and combat perceived threats to freedom of speech, particularly in cities like London, Paris, Berlin, and Brussels.

The Financial Times also reported on the State Department's plans to support think tanks and organizations associated with the MAGA movement in key European countries to promote "American values" and counter perceived threats to freedom of speech.
