He noted that he had previously raised the issue of fair distribution of water resources with neighboring countries.
“At the committee meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, who also holds the position of Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, rightly pointed out that the distribution of water resources is carried out in accordance with intergovernmental agreements. I argued that according to international law, water is an economic resource and asked whether we receive any economic compensation for this water. Torobaev also mentioned that neighbors provide financial assistance for the repair of hydraulic structures. I receive calls from acquaintances in neighboring countries informing me that Kyrgyzstan intends to sell water. I want to emphasize that my words have been distorted and misunderstood. It is important to understand that the issue of water resources is part of a broader geopolitical context: we provide water, and in return, we receive other resources from our neighbors. Therefore, I want to clarify that the Kyrgyz do not intend to sell water,” added Umbetaly Kydyraiev.
