At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the first deputy prime minister Daniyar Amangeldiev stated that cafes and restaurants had no legal grounds to add 15 percent for service to their customers' bills.

He emphasized that according to current legislation, service charges should be based on the voluntary consent of consumers.

“Cafes have included 15 percent in their bills in violation of the law. The Cabinet, within its powers, has taken measures to rectify this situation. We are conducting the appropriate calculations and implementing measures in the service sector. Recently, this sector has shown significant price increases, and the cancellation of the 15 percent is aimed at protecting consumer rights,” Amangeldiev added.

He also noted that price control in public catering establishments is carried out by the Antimonopoly Service.

However, deputy Dastan Bekeshev criticized the new cabinet resolution, accusing it of harming ordinary citizens due to its intervention in this area. “Now cafes and restaurants are under pressure, and ordinary people are suffering. Perhaps this decision should be reconsidered. It would be better if you focused your efforts on regulating prices for essential food products, such as meat and oil,” he stated.
