In Abu Dhabi, an award ceremony took place where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev were honored with the "Zayed Prize for Human Brotherhood."
The Sheikh Zayed Foundation from the United Arab Emirates announced the laureates of the award for 2026. According to the official website of the foundation, the award was given for the signing of the Agreement on Peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which ended a long-standing conflict in the Caucasus.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that this ceremony symbolizes not only the celebration of the "peace agreement" but also confirms that Yerevan and Baku have "turned the page on the conflict." He also noted that this award belongs to all Armenians and Azerbaijanis who "dared to dream of peace."
Ilham Aliyev, for his part, remarked: "We were in a state of war for over 30 years. Now, we have been living in peace for six months. We are learning to coexist in peace. It is a unique feeling."
Congratulations to both leaders were sent by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a video address.
It is also worth noting that earlier, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov expressed confidence in Azerbaijan and Armenia's ability to build long-term relations. He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan was able to resolve border issues with its neighbors based on the spirit of friendship and trust, and that Baku and Yerevan could follow this example to achieve sustainable peace.
The peaceful resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan occurred against the backdrop of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which ended in 2023 when Azerbaijan reestablished control over the region.
