At the B5+1 business forum taking place in Bishkek, Sergio Gor, the U.S. President's Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, stated that the revision of visa norms for citizens of 75 countries, including Kyrgyzstan, has become a necessary measure in the fight against illegal migration.
The diplomat noted that the U.S. government has been actively tightening immigration measures over the past few months. He emphasized that this is not directed against any specific countries but is driven by national security concerns.
“We aim to protect our borders. These innovations are focused on combating illegal migration and strengthening control over visa issuance,” said Sergio Gor.
He also added that the tightening of visa rules should not negatively impact economic ties with Central Asia. The U.S. plans to continue developing business cooperation, especially in the areas of e-commerce and transportation, viewing this as a mutually beneficial initiative.
It is important to note that at the beginning of this year, the U.S. State Department officially halted the issuance of immigration visas for citizens of 75 countries, including Kyrgyzstan. Although the restrictions do not apply to tourist and business trips, control over them has been significantly strengthened.
