The State Security Service of Azerbaijan confirmed the information about the detention of several citizens who participated in military actions on Ukrainian territory.
According to official data, in January 2026, individuals who fought on both the side of the Russian armed forces and on the side of Ukraine, being part of unauthorized formations, were arrested.
The court has already approved the arrest of these suspects. Baku strongly emphasizes that participation in armed conflicts outside the country is considered a criminal offense, regardless of which side the volunteer is on. This step demonstrates Azerbaijan's firm commitment to the principle of neutrality and the fight against mercenarism, especially in light of the current diplomatic disagreements with Russia regarding Ukraine.
