The Minister of Natural Resources does not trust the world cities ranking for air quality
Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraliev pointed out that Bishkek sometimes ranks at the top of this list due to high levels of air pollution and asked why the capital of Kyrgyzstan is still included in this ranking.
In response, Mashiev noted that this ranking is not an authoritative source of information. He also reported that there has been a slight improvement in air quality in Bishkek over the past three years, and the situation does not correspond to the indicators recorded in this ranking.
Nevertheless, the minister acknowledged that the problem of air pollution in Bishkek persists. According to him, the Hydrometeorological Service has installed its own sensors that allow for independent monitoring of air quality in the city.
Furthermore, Mashiev added that Bishkek should not hold the top position in the world for pollution levels and suggested that there may be technical malfunctions on the website providing the ranking data.
