A deputy calls on the EU to stop exerting pressure
Thierry Mariani, representing France in the European Parliament, called on the European Union to stop pressuring Kyrgyzstan and to begin constructive cooperation. During his speech, he noted that Bishkek demonstrates stability even in difficult circumstances and is open to international observers.
Mariani emphasized that the level of trust in President Sadyr Japarov in the country is such that European leaders should be envious. He noted that Japarov has managed to strengthen state institutions and effectively combat criminal groups.
The French legislator urged his colleagues to "extend a helping hand" to Bishkek rather than impose conditions. He also added that ignoring Kyrgyzstan's ties with Russia and the unique process of forming its national identity is a serious geopolitical mistake that could negatively impact relations with Central Asia.
