GDP is Growing, but Food Prices are Hitting the Wallet
During the meeting of the budget and finance committee, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev appealed to the authorities to postpone the deadlines for increasing contributions for alternative service. He proposed introducing a one-year moratorium on the new tariffs, stating that in the context of high inflation, such a financial burden would become unbearable for citizens. Bekeshev emphasized that the sharp rise in prices for essential goods is already negatively affecting the social climate, and now is not the best time to implement such reforms.
The deputy justified his point of view, noting that the bill would exacerbate existing social inequality. According to him, for wealthy individuals, the amount of 75,000 soms would not pose a serious obstacle, while for low-income families, such a "purchase" of a military ticket would turn into a real disaster. Bekeshev called on his colleagues to compromise, supporting the concept in the first reading, but with the condition of postponing its implementation for at least a year to wait for the stabilization of the situation and the completion of the presidential elections.
He also pointed out the significant discrepancy between official economic data and the real standard of living of the population. Bekeshev noted that while officials report GDP growth, ordinary people are facing unprecedented price increases for basic food products. In light of the Ministry of Defense's data indicating that revenues from alternative service are already showing growth (750 million soms in 2025 compared to 714 million the previous year), Bekeshev believes that current budget revenues are quite sufficient and calls for not complicating life for citizens during this socially sensitive period.
