Edil Baisalov, Deputy Prime Minister, shared his opinion on the current situation regarding the shortage of medical workers in Kyrgyzstan in an interview with 24.kg.
According to the Ministry of Health, our country is short of about 23,000 medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics.
“The situation varies depending on the region,” Baisalov emphasized.
“We are different from a number of developing countries, such as some African states, where the shortage of qualified doctors and nurses is a pressing issue. In our case, the problem is being addressed,” he noted. “This year, doctors' salaries will increase to 50-60 thousand soms, and even higher in mountainous areas. This is just the beginning; we have 2027, 2028, and 2030 ahead. As for salaries, we have no issues. However, it is also important to consider that young specialists need to be provided with housing. This is a critically important aspect. Even if we offer a salary of 50-60 thousand soms and certain bonuses, there is no comfortable housing for rent in the districts and villages.”
Modern youth do not aspire to live under the fence. They want to see infrastructure.

“This is a completely natural and justified desire. However, the problem is not limited to just financial or housing issues. Young doctors want to work in modern medical institutions, and 80% of our infrastructure leaves much to be desired. Even if we somehow attract young specialists, they may burn out within a year if they are not satisfied with the environment and working conditions,” he acknowledged.
It was previously reported that the average salary of doctors in the country currently stands at 31,500 soms.
