There are mistakes, but the result will come. Edil Baysalov on the transition to 12-year education
He noted that one of the key tasks for the education system is the reform of school education.
According to him, mistakes are inevitable in the process of change.
“We cannot allow anyone to steer us off course. Mistakes will be corrected, and we will move forward,” he emphasized.
“Many difficulties are expected. People, remember that criticism does not mean we are unaware of the upcoming problems. We have 1.5 million students, about 2.5 thousand schools, and around 100 thousand teachers. A complete overhaul of methodology, educational materials, and approaches is a serious task. We realize that this will be difficult and fraught with significant challenges. But, fortunately, we are confidently moving ahead,” Baysalov added.
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers expressed confidence that the results of the reform will only become evident in 15 years.
“Until then, we need to move forward purposefully. This will be a completely new nation, new children, and a new society. By 2050, we will see a new generation of Kyrgyz people capable of competing on the international stage,” he noted.
Kyrgyzstan is undergoing a phased transition to 12-year education. The 2025/2026 academic year will be the first when the new program will be adopted by students in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th grades.
In 2026, more than one billion soms will be allocated for the reform of the education system, which corresponds to the funds spent last year.
