At a meeting of the "Mekenchil" parliamentary group, Janibek Abirov, a member of parliament, expressed concern about the situation with the houses on Sheralieva Street. Residents of the Lenin district of Bishkek have approached the deputies with a request to clarify whether their homes will be at risk of demolition as part of the project to widen the street from Akhunbaev to Gagarin and connect it with Termechikova Street.
Abirov urged the city hall to provide clarifications so that the deputies could explain the current situation to the citizens.
According to him, "people are worried that under the General Plan until 2050, their homes may be demolished, which has already led to a decrease in property prices in the area when selling."
Bishkek's Deputy Mayor Azamat Kadyrov confirmed that in previous versions of the general plans, this section was also designated as a road.
He added: "Earlier, general plans were discussed in a closed manner, and therefore residents were not informed about the plans to widen the street. Currently, we are openly discussing the new general plan, holding public hearings, and taking into account the opinions of citizens. We are informing people and investors about the upcoming changes. I am not claiming that we will start widening this street tomorrow, but it is indicated in the project," he noted.
