The number of migrant children has decreased by almost 25 percent - Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia
Currently, there are significantly fewer minor migrants registered in Russia than last year. The department noted that the measures introduced to strengthen control over foreigners, including children, have contributed to this decrease.
On January 28, a new federal law came into effect, establishing information exchange between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and educational authorities regarding minor foreign citizens. Now, information about migration registration, enrollment in educational institutions, as well as expulsions will be transmitted between these agencies.
Authorities believe that this will allow for more effective control over the legality of migrant children's presence in the country and their access to educational services.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that parents or legal representatives who grossly violate their obligations to ensure the legal stay and education of their children may be deemed undesirable for residence in Russia.
It is also worth reminding that starting from 2025, Russian authorities have tightened the requirements for enrolling migrant children in schools. As of April 1 of last year, a law came into effect prohibiting the admission of migrant children who do not speak Russian and have not undergone verification of the legality of their stay in the country.
