In three regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, they plan to provide drinking water to 425 thousand people
First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Janibek Kerimaliev reported that within the framework of the "Universal Access to Water Supply and Sanitation (Phase 1)" program, it is planned to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in 126 villages.
As Kerimaliev noted, the total amount of funding is $200 million, of which $180 million has already been approved by the deputies of the previous convocation. It remains to agree on $20 million. Work will begin immediately after receiving full approval.
The OPEC Fund for International Development is providing a loan of $20 million for a period of 20 years.
The main elements of the program include:
— investments in water supply amounting to $140 million, aimed at the construction and modernization of water supply systems in 126 settlements in the Chui, Issyk-Kul, and Osh regions. The implementation of energy-efficient pumps and solar technologies is also planned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
— sanitation development with funding of $29 million, which includes the modernization of toilets for vulnerable groups and public institutions (schools, kindergartens, hospitals), ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities in all 126 target settlements.
Additionally, the program includes other important components.
