The Ministry of Agriculture acknowledged the deplorable condition of pastures in Kyrgyzstan
Deputy Alisher Kozyuev raised the issue of the condition of pastures, addressing Zhanibek Kerimaliev, who previously headed the Department of Pastures and currently holds the position of First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Kerimaliev confirmed that the pastures are in critical condition and are subject to degradation. "It is necessary to take measures to improve the infrastructure of pastures. We plan to select one of the regions as a pilot project to combat degradation. Previously, pastures were managed by the ayyt committees, which carried out the necessary work on the ground. However, with the transfer of pastures to the management of the ayil okmotu, problems arose, as the funds collected for improving infrastructure were misused, exacerbating the situation. We intend to monitor the targeted use of all funds allocated for pastures," he added.
Alisher Kozyuev agreed with the Deputy Minister's opinion, noting that many pastures are overgrown with poisonous plants, and in some areas, there is a lack of fodder grass for livestock. "Unfortunately, the funds collected for the development of pastures were not directed towards improving their infrastructure. If pastures are under the balance of the ayil okmotu, it is important to strengthen control over their activities to ensure that funding is used for its intended purpose," he said.
