At the World Economic Forum in Davos, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his deep concern about the current state of the world order. In the context of growing territorial disputes, such as the situation surrounding Greenland, and increased pressure from Washington, he did not hold back in criticizing existing international relations.

“We are witnessing the world moving towards a state of lawlessness. Conflicts have become a daily reality. In 2024, there were more than 60 wars on the planet — an unprecedented level,” Macron emphasized, adding that “imperial ambitions have become relevant again,” and that “the law of the strongest” has become the only functioning rule. He noted that the era of global cooperation has come to an end and has given way to competitive struggle.

Macron also emphasized France's and Europe's commitment to the principles of “territorial sovereignty and independence.” He pointed out that this is not an outdated idea, but serves as a reminder of the lessons of World War II. The main part of his criticism was directed at the economic policy of the United States. “The trade agreements imposed by the U.S. are clearly aimed at weakening and subjugating Europe. Tariffs are used as a tool to pressure sovereignty. This is absolutely unacceptable,” the president stated.

In conclusion of his speech, Macron called on European leaders to take active measures, pointing to the excessive naivety of the European Union. “Today's Europeans are too naive: we are the only ones who do not protect our companies and markets when other countries do not adhere to equal competition conditions,” he summarized, adding that Europe has all the necessary tools to protect its interests.
