A New Defense Minister Appointed in Ukraine

Mikhail Fedorov has become the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine, receiving support from 277 votes of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by "Meduza".

Fedorov stated his intention to reform the system of training Ukrainian servicemen, emphasizing that "quality training is the key to reducing losses and increasing efficiency." He noted the necessity of addressing the issues of the Territorial Defense Centers and promised that after a comprehensive audit, systemic solutions would be proposed to eliminate the accumulated difficulties over the years, while maintaining the country's defense capability.

Previously, this position was held by Denis Shmyhal, who served as Minister of Defense for six months, starting in July 2025. In early 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the decision to "change the format of the Ministry of Defense" and proposed Fedorov to take on this key position.
