The spring break for schoolchildren has been extended from March 2 to March 8, which became possible due to numerous appeals from parents and consultations with the expert community, noted Deputy Minister of Education Nadira Jusupbekova at a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Science, Education, Innovative Development, Information Technologies, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs.

As Jusupbekova explained, this academic year, the standard duration of the educational process is 34 weeks. The educational programs are distributed over four quarters, with breaks after the first quarter traditionally lasting 5 days, and longer breaks after the second quarter.

The deputy minister added that the reduction of the break in the third quarter occurred due to the entry into force of the new Labor Code in January 2026, as well as additional days off from May 1 to May 10, which create an additional rest period for students.

“We received numerous appeals from parents. In addition, we held consultations with representatives of schools, experts, and methodologists, as well as with the Kyrgyz Academy of Education, and as a result, a decision was made to extend the spring break from March 2 to March 8,” she reported.

Jusupbekova also added that the Ministry of Education and the Kyrgyz Academy of Education have been instructed to take into account the proposals of parents, teachers, and experts when preparing the holiday calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year.

According to her, in the future, it is planned to distribute the educational load and rest periods more rationally, taking into account the opinions of society and the professional community.
