Spring Break — Just One Day. The Ministry of Education Explained the Reason
In this academic year, the spring break is scheduled from March 6 to March 8, which includes three calendar days considering the weekends.
According to regulations, school students are entitled to 30 calendar days of vacation throughout the year.
In previous years, educational institutions established three vacation periods: autumn — about 9 days, winter — 12 days, spring — 9 days, not counting public holidays defined by legislation.
As of January 1, 2026, a new Labor Code, adopted on June 4, 2025, came into effect, which in Article 66 defines two long periods of non-working public holidays in January (from the 1st to the 6th) and May (from the 1st to the 8th).
Additionally, January 7, May 5, and May 9 are also recognized as non-working public holidays. If January 10-11 or May 10-11 coincide with weekends, the actual duration of the winter and May breaks may extend to 12 calendar days.
These norms also apply to school education, so students in general education institutions must be exempt from classes during the May holidays from May 1 to May 10, in addition to the three designated vacation periods (autumn, winter, and spring).
Thus, out of the 30 calendar days for vacation, 24 days are allocated to winter breaks and May holidays.
The remaining 6 days are distributed between the autumn (November) and spring (March) breaks, which requires precise accounting when drawing up the academic schedule and adhering to the established duration of vacations.
In the current academic year 2025-2026, the autumn break is scheduled from November 5 to November 9, 2025 (5 calendar days considering weekends) and the spring break from March 6 to March 8 (3 calendar days considering weekends).
