On February 12-13, a meeting of the deputy ministers of environmental and educational agencies from Central Asian countries took place in Astana.

This event was held in anticipation of the Regional Environmental Summit scheduled for 2026.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Education, the main goal of the meeting was to discuss the Concept of the Regional Platform for "Green Schools." This project is intended to be approved at a high level during a round table dedicated to the topic "Children, Youth, and Climate." Participants discussed the formation of educational systems that are resilient to climate change in the context of growing transboundary environmental challenges.

Deputy Minister of Education Nadira Jusupbekova presented the current state of work in Kyrgyzstan regarding the greening of the educational process. She noted that the country is working on areas related to resource conservation, enhancing the safety and climate resilience of school infrastructure, as well as integrating environmental topics into curricula. In Kyrgyzstan, there are about 120 climate-resilient schools, energy efficiency projects are being implemented, building codes have been updated, and standards for "green schools" are being developed.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan in collaboration with the UNICEF office.

As a result of the discussions, agreed approaches to the development of climate-oriented educational systems were formulated, and practical steps for further promotion of the regional "Green Schools" platform were identified.
