Three football fields worth of nets raised from the bottom of Issyk-Kul

During a raid on March 23, employees of the Issyk-Kul Regional Department of the Environmental Supervision Service under the Ministry of Natural Resources raised illegal fishing nets with a total length of 300 meters from the waters of Issyk-Kul. If laid out in a single line, these nets would stretch the length of three football fields.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources, such "invisible traps" cause serious damage to the lake's ecosystem, poisoning it with plastic and destroying fish for many years.
This action is part of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 131, which concerns urgent measures for the protection of the ecology of Issyk-Kul.
The Ministry emphasized that the use of synthetic nets poses a serious threat to the country's natural heritage and assured that activities to clean up water bodies and combat poaching will continue until the lake is completely cleared.
