In the near future, a program for creating a national carbon unit accounting system will be launched in Kyrgyzstan. This information was presented by the Ministry of Energy of the country.

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Altynbek Rysbekov, held discussions on this project with experts from the World Bank, led by Maksudzhon Safarov.

The project, which is being implemented under the iFIRST initiative, will be one of the first in the country dedicated to carbon financing. Its goal is to develop the energy sector and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The uniqueness of this initiative lies in the fact that funding will only be provided on the condition of confirming actual reductions in carbon emissions.

If the project is successfully implemented, Kyrgyzstan could receive up to $4.5 million and attract an additional $5.5 million through carbon markets. Furthermore, technical support of up to $1.5 million is planned. It is expected that the initiative will strengthen climate policy, modernize the energy sector, and enhance the country's environmental sustainability.
