At a meeting of the Agrarian Policy Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Gulsharkan Kultaeva discussed the fate of seedlings that were imported by entrepreneurs before the ban on their import came into effect.

The deputy reported that businesses had already brought in various varieties of fruit seedlings; however, as of March 1, a ban on their import has been in effect, which will last for six months. This has raised questions about what to do with the already delivered planting material.

According to Kultaeva, entrepreneurs are turning to deputies for clarifications. She noted that with the import ban in place, it remains unclear how to handle seedlings that are already in the country or at customs.

“If they cannot be sold, what should entrepreneurs do? Or is there a possibility to export them to another country?” the deputy asked.

Kultaeva also clarified that, according to the businessmen, these are high-quality and in-demand varieties recognized at the international level. If the seedlings are stored for too long in warehouses or at customs, they may lose their quality, leading to losses for the business.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mirbek Duyshiev confirmed that the ministry is aware of the issue that has arisen. He noted that importers were notified in advance about the upcoming restrictions when preparing the draft resolution.

Duyshiev added that due to changes in logistics and delays on routes, including transportation through Iran, some shipments arrived late.

According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture has already sent a relevant request to the customs authorities and plans to further consider the details of the resolution to find a solution to the situation that has arisen.
