Employees of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service in Bishkek conducted a quality control check of coal being sold at one of the retail outlets. The inspection was carried out using a dosimeter to determine the radiation background level of the fuel.

Specialists reported that the permissible radiation level for coal should not exceed 300 microsieverts per hour. If this indicator is higher, the coal is classified as hazardous for use. Measurements are taken at a distance of approximately 15 centimeters from the coal.

As a result of the inspection at the specified retail outlet, the radiation background was found to be 70 microsieverts per hour, which is within the norm.

The inspector of the regional environmental supervision department for Bishkek and the Alamedin district, Agarbek Kudaybergenov, noted that the coal being inspected contained a large amount of dust, which adversely affects its quality. He emphasized that the minimum size of the coal fraction should be at least 13 mm, as smaller particles are prohibited from sale.

The head of the air protection department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Almaz Oskonbaev, reminded about the ban established by the Cabinet of Ministers last year regarding the sale of coal with a fraction smaller than 13 mm. He also noted that coal can be further crushed during transportation.

However, to sort coal from fine fractions, sellers use the base of an old bed, where the spring serves to sift out the small coal particles.
