At a briefing held on February 13 in Bishkek, Azamat Mambetov, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, reported an increase in the accuracy of forecasts by Kyrgyzhydromet to 96%.

The service provides forecasts for various time frames—from one to seven days—while the accuracy of predictions increases with the reduction of the time interval.

To improve the operation of the hydrometeorological service, the Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted a complete modernization of the observation system. Since 2007, the agency has been actively updating equipment, replacing old manual weather stations with modern automatic ones. Currently, there are 135 automatic weather stations operating in the country.

Mambetov also noted that the flourishing of hydrometeorology in Kyrgyzstan occurred in 1985, when there were 85 weather stations in operation. However, by 2007, when Kyrgyzhydromet was integrated into the Ministry of Emergency Situations, only 33 stations remained. The modernization was carried out thanks to grants and loans from various financial institutions and donor organizations.

In addition to weather stations, hydrological posts have been updated—special points that measure the volume of water resources in critical areas. Currently, there are 98 hydrological posts operating in the country, allowing for accurate calculations of water inflow into irrigation and energy systems.

Kyrgyzhydromet forecasts river flow and precipitation in the form of rain and snow, which become part of the water resources directed to reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations. These forecasts serve as the basis for planning the operations of irrigation, agricultural, and energy structures.
