"Flue Gas Cleaning and Electrofilters Reduced Emissions at Bishkek CHPP, - Mayor"
Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev, responding to a question from Deputy Bakyt Tentishev, noted that although the CHPP is a source of emissions, its impact on air pollution is significantly less than that of road transport and residential areas.
According to the mayor, during the autumn-winter period, new energy units at the CHPP have implemented sulfur purification installations, which have significantly reduced the volume of emissions—only steam is released from the pipes. The old units continue to operate with electrofilters, which are also being modernized.
In addition, Junushaliev reported on a new approach to ash disposal at the CHPP. Previously, budget funds were allocated for its removal and cleaning, but now the ash is sold to investors for 2,900 soms per ton. Investors have installed equipment worth about 1.5 million dollars to extract ash directly from the pipes, which also helps reduce emissions.
