Despite questions about the sensors, the Bishkek City Hall is analyzing air indices, - the mayor
During the discussion, Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraiev emphasized that to improve the ecological situation, it is necessary to make appropriate changes to the General Plan of the capital.
He noted the importance of considering the wind rose, the characteristics of construction, and sources of air pollution, adding that without political will, it is impossible to achieve a systemic solution to this problem.
Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev reported that the city administration monitors international air quality indices daily and analyzes their dynamics, noting the improvement in the city's positions in the rankings during windy weather.
He cited major cities such as Beijing, Lahore, and Delhi, pointing out that even with significant investments in ecology, the problem of air pollution remains serious. The mayor added that despite doubts about the accuracy of some sensors, the authorities continue to use the published indices to assess the effectiveness of their measures.
Junushaliev also stated that during the development of the General Plan for Bishkek, ecological issues, including the influence of the wind rose, were considered separately with the involvement of independent foreign experts to ensure objectivity. According to him, about 89% of the initiatives proposed during the discussions have already been taken into account and are being implemented.
The deputy provided data on the structure of air pollution sources in Bishkek: about 47% of pollution is related to the use of coal for heating, 21% to motor vehicles (minibuses and trucks), 15% to industry, and 17% comes from other sources. He emphasized the need for active promotion of gasification as one of the key steps to reduce the level of smog in the capital.
